A Delta Air Lines flight made an emergency landing at Porto airport in Portugal after smoke was detected in the cabin, with four passengers taken to hospital and treated for smoke inhalation.
The Airbus A330 was travelling from Barcelona to Boston with 296 passengers when it was diverted to the airport in northern Portugal on Sunday.
Fourteen passengers required assistance after the aircraft landed safely, Portugal’s civil protection service said. Eight were treated on the tarmac, while four others were taken to hospital with what officials described as light effects from smoke inhalation.
The cause of the smoke was not immediately known.
The incident follows four emergency landings involving Delta aircraft within a week. Two were prompted by reports of cabin fumes and two by apparent pressurisation problems.
