A fire destroyed 27 commercial vehicles behind a Verizon building in Waldorf, Maryland, causing an estimated $3.8 million (£3 million) in damage, officials said.
Firefighters were called to 33 Industrial Park Drive at about 3.10am on Sunday, after several members of the public reported seeing flames in the area. Crews found the vehicles burning beneath an awning in the rear parking area.
The blaze prompted a two-alarm response involving about 100 firefighters from Charles County and neighbouring jurisdictions. Fire officials said the flames were brought under control within an hour, although crews remained at the scene for more than three hours.
The vehicles, their contents and part of the parking structure were destroyed. Firefighters reported that the fire did not spread into the nearby building.
No injuries were reported. The Office of the Maryland State Fire Marshal said the cause of the fire had not been established and no suspects had been identified.
Deputy state fire marshals are examining the scene with the assistance of accelerant-detection dog K9 Taylor. The investigation remains ongoing.
Anyone with information about the fire has been asked to contact the Southern Region Office of the Maryland State Fire Marshal on 410-414-3600.
