The Palm Beach plane crash that killed all nine people aboard a private jet is being investigated by the National Transportation Safety Board, with early updates expected to shed light on what happened at 37,000 feet.
The aircraft was flying through a storm which appeared to cause ice to build up before it crashed. The circumstances surrounding the decision to climb higher remain unclear.
An expert spoken to by New York Post journalist Caitlyn Becker said Learjets such as the one involved do not generally perform better at higher altitudes. The pilot had requested a climb from 35,000 feet to 37,000 feet, although no reason for the request was given.
The crash was discussed on “The Low Down”, a collaboration between TMZ and the New York Post. Harvey said he had been unable to stop thinking about what conditions inside the aircraft may have been like shortly before it hit the ground.
He also praised the 20-year-old co-pilot, Nathalia Gadelha Filgueiras, for keeping her composure.
Investigators are examining the weather, the reported ice accumulation and the aircraft’s climb as they work to establish what led to the fatal crash.
