North of North has not yet been renewed for a third season, although star Anna Lambe has outlined what she would like to see in a potential continuation of the Netflix comedy.
The Canadian series, which has just returned for its second season, follows Siaja, a young Inuk mother attempting to build a new life after a highly publicised departure from her marriage.
In the new episodes, Siaja continues to make major decisions as winter approaches in the Arctic community of Ice Cove. She is determined to improve her circumstances while proving to those around her, and to herself, that she is ready to take control of her life.
Anna Lambe’s hopes for a third season
Speaking to TV Insider, Lambe said she would like a third season to explore a more considered side of Siaja, who has often acted impulsively.
“You know, I think in season 3, you know, season 2, Siaja goes about trying to solve problems and and trying to tackle things in a very CIA way, which is very impulsively and very kind of like jump first, think second,” she said.
“And I would love in a season 3 to see what it means to Siaja to be a bit more thoughtful and considerate with something as sensitive as reconnecting this relationship between her mother and and her sister. And what does it mean to um create that kind of space.”
Netflix has not given a timeframe for any renewal announcement. The second season was confirmed three weeks after the first season aired, but filming did not begin until nine months later.
North of North has already received significant recognition in Canada. Its first season won five Directors Guild of Canada awards, one Writers Guild of Canada award and nine Canadian Screen Awards, including Best Comedy Series and Best Leading Performance in a Comedy Series for Lambe.
Lambe is joined in the cast by Maika Harper, Braeden Clarke, Jay Ryan, Mary Lynn Rajskub, Zorga Qaunaq, Bailey Poching, Nutaaq Simmonds and Keira Cooper.
All eight episodes of North of North’s second season are now available to stream on Netflix.
