Aston Villa are exploring a move for Barcelona midfielder Gavi, with manager Unai Emery reportedly keen to bring the Spain international to Villa Park in one of the club’s upcoming transfer windows.
The 22-year-old has found regular first-team football difficult to secure under Hansi Flick this season. He has started only two of his four La Liga appearances and has also featured from the bench in the Champions League.
Aston Villa consider move for Barcelona midfielder
A report from Spain claims Emery is interested in offering Gavi the opportunity to continue his development in the Premier League, where his technical quality, pressing and energy could strengthen Villa’s midfield.
Gavi is regarded as one of the most talented midfielders of his generation, but his limited involvement at Barcelona could make a more prominent role elsewhere appealing if his situation does not improve.
Any potential move, however, would face significant obstacles. Barcelona are understood to view Gavi as an important part of their long-term plans and are reluctant to consider his departure.
The midfielder is also under contract with the Catalan club until 2030, giving Barcelona considerable control over his future. Fabrizio Romano has indicated that the club have no intention of selling him despite his reduced playing time.
It remains unclear whether Aston Villa will make a formal approach, but Emery’s reported admiration means Gavi could remain a player to watch during the next transfer windows.
