Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly interested in signing Palmeiras defender Agustin Giay, with Atletico Madrid and Napoli also competing for the Argentine right-back.
The 22-year-old has attracted attention from several European clubs after impressing in Brazil. He is understood to be available for around €25 million, although Palmeiras are not expected to consider his departure until after the Copa Libertadores final on November 28.
Tottenham interest in Agustin Giay
Giay could offer Roberto De Zerbi greater depth at right-back, a position where Tottenham are seeking additional quality. Uncertainty surrounding Pedro Porro’s long-term future has added to the need for further options in the role.
The Argentine has been noted for his pace, strength and ability to contribute in the attacking third. His versatility and energy could also provide competition for Archie Gray.
At 22, Giay is viewed as a player with room to develop, and a move to the Premier League could support his progress into an important first-team player.
Atletico Madrid and Napoli also monitoring defender
Tottenham face a contest for his signature, however. Atletico Madrid are reportedly interested, with Diego Simeone said to regard Giay as a potential addition to strengthen his options on the right flank.
Napoli are also pursuing the defender as they seek a long-term successor to Giovanni Di Lorenzo. Palmeiras have previously rejected an offer from the Italian club and are unlikely to reduce their valuation of approximately €25 million.
It remains unclear whether Tottenham will make a formal approach in the coming months, but they may need to move decisively if they are to beat Atletico Madrid and Napoli to Giay’s signature.
