PopUp Bagels will open its first Minnesota location in Minneapolis on Friday 6 November, bringing its hot, unsliced bagels and “Grip, Rip and Dip” concept to the city’s North Loop neighbourhood.
The shop at 107 3rd Avenue North will be led by Minnesota partners Dan Daquisto and Alex Smereczniak, who are behind a wider franchise expansion across the Midwest.
Rather than serving traditional bagel sandwiches, PopUp Bagels sells whole bagels fresh from the oven, which customers tear apart and dip into pots of flavoured butter or cream cheese. The brand has built a substantial following through social media and is known for generating interest around new openings and limited-edition offerings.
PopUp Bagels Minneapolis opening
The North Loop branch will introduce a limited-time schmear inspired by Old Dutch Spicy Cheddar and Sour Cream crisps, giving the opening a distinctly Minnesota flavour.
The menu will focus on a small selection of bagels, including plain, salt, sesame, poppy and everything varieties. Customers will be able to order in person, arrange collection in advance or use the shop’s catering service.
After opening, the Minneapolis location is expected to trade daily from 6am to 3pm. A launch event is also planned, with music and Minnesota-themed merchandise available to mark the brand’s arrival.
“PopUp Bagels is truly a different kind of bagel experience. We don’t do sandwiches; we serve every bagel hot and straight from the oven,” Daquisto said.
“It’s all about bringing people together over great bagels in a fun, shareable way. I’m so excited to bring that unique experience to my hometown of Minneapolis.”
PopUp Bagels began in 2021 as a backyard venture run by founder Adam Goldberg in Westport, Connecticut, before expanding into a growing chain across the United States. Its Midwest presence has already reached Chicago.
Daquisto and Smereczniak hold development rights for 10 locations across Minnesota, Iowa, North Dakota, South Dakota, Nebraska and parts of western Wisconsin, with Minnesota expected to be the initial focus.
The partners have also indicated that the company could eventually open up to 10 shops across the Twin Cities, although the North Loop branch will serve as the first step in the regional expansion.
