Tottenham have retained a Harry Kane transfer clause allowing them to match any offer accepted by Bayern Munich from another Premier League club, despite the striker signing a new contract in Germany.
The 33-year-old England captain has committed his future to Bayern following his Ballon d’Or success. The new agreement is reportedly worth enough to make him the highest-paid footballer in Europe.
Tottenham’s Harry Kane transfer rights remain in place
The matching rights were included when Kane moved from Tottenham to Bayern for £100 million in 2023. They are understood to be an agreement between the two clubs and apply throughout the striker’s time in Munich, rather than only for the duration of his original contract.
As a result, Kane’s latest extension does not automatically remove Tottenham’s ability to respond if Bayern accept a bid from another Premier League side.
A return to north London remains unlikely in the immediate future, given Kane’s success and apparent comfort at Bayern. However, the clause leaves open the possibility of a return to English football later in his career.
Kane has scored 213 Premier League goals, putting him 47 behind Alan Shearer’s record total of 260. He is already second on the competition’s all-time list, ahead of Wayne Rooney’s 208.
The striker also paid tribute to Tottenham during his Ballon d’Or acceptance speech, meaning a return to the club to pursue Shearer’s record could remain a potential ambition before he ends his career.
