Jodie Sweetin has spoken about the financial struggles she faced after Full House ended, saying she took a job at a Los Angeles treatment centre after getting sober in 2011.
The actress, now 44, was a teenager when the American sitcom finished its run in 1995. She said that, in the years that followed, she secured only a small number of acting roles while also struggling with alcoholism and drug addiction.
Speaking on the We’re Still Here, Babe podcast, Sweetin said she had no reservations about taking what she described as a “normal job” to pay her bills.
“I didn’t have ego about it,” she said. “I didn’t care that I was quote unquote working a normal job. I think other people again were like, ‘What are you doing here?’ And I was like, ‘Paying my bills. Kids don’t pay for themselves.’”
Sweetin, who has two daughters, added that the experience taught her humility and gave her an understanding of financial insecurity.
“And not like I was ever a materialistic person,” she said. “But you learn humility when you are at Target and you’ve got to turn around and, you know, put some s— back, ’cause you don’t have the money on your debit card.”
She said she resolved to make the best of her circumstances, regardless of whether she was working in entertainment or elsewhere.
“I was like, I would be fine doing this if this is what I’m going to do, cool,” Sweetin said. “And I just threw myself into being as fully present as I could be and that old you know ‘bloom where you’re planted’ kind of vibe. Like, if this is what it is, then I’m going to make it good, and I’m going to have fun, and I’m going to enjoy it.”
Sweetin said her financial circumstances had varied over time, adding that she had “had and definitely not had” and had “learned to exist in both”.
She shares her 18-year-old daughter, Zoie, with her second ex-husband Cody Herpin, and her 16-year-old daughter, Beatrix, with her third ex-husband Morty Coyle. Sweetin has been married to her fourth husband, Mescal Wasilewski, since 2022.
