Arsenal came from behind to beat Chelsea 2-1 in a pulsating London derby on Sunday, while Manchester United surrendered a late lead to draw 2-2 with Everton.
The champions were stunned after only 77 seconds at the Emirates Stadium when Morgan Rogers fired Chelsea ahead. Arsenal responded with sustained pressure and equalised through Kai Havertz in the 25th minute.
Martin Ødegaard completed the comeback five minutes after half-time, finishing a flowing move to give Mikel Arteta’s side all three points and maintain their perfect start to the Premier League season.
Chelsea threatened to level, with Pedro Neto striking the post before the interval, while David Raya produced a decisive late save to deny Estevão. The defeat was Chelsea’s first under manager Xabi Alonso.
“Normally you win games when you don’t concede many goals,” Alonso told Sky Sports afterwards. “It’s something we need to address. We need to be tighter, more clinical, more balanced.”
At Hill Dickinson Stadium, Manchester United appeared to be heading for victory after Bryan Mbeumo put them ahead shortly after half-time.
Everton equalised through Tyrique George in the 83rd minute, but United regained the lead when Benjamin Sesko headed home. Their advantage lasted only until the sixth minute of added time, when substitute Ainsley Maitland-Niles struck a powerful equaliser on his Everton debut.
The result extended Manchester United’s run of dropped points and meant Everton had come from behind twice to secure a share of the spoils.
