Three hosts have been charged after police officers were allegedly pelted with glass bottles during an out-of-control party in Capalaba, south-east of Brisbane.
A 45-year-old man, a 41-year-old woman and a 16-year-old boy will face legal action following the disturbance on September 19. The two adults have been charged with organising an out-of-control event and are due to appear at Cleveland Magistrates Court on October 27.
Police were called to reports of a large gathering at about 10.15pm. A significant number of people were in the area and extra officers were required before police could enter the residence.
Glass bottles were allegedly thrown at officers as they responded. As partygoers fled, a 16-year-old girl was found collapsed and taken to hospital, where she was discharged the following morning.
A 43-year-old man who had arrived to collect a party guest also suffered a medical episode. He was taken to hospital and remained in a critical condition, police said.
A separate 17-year-old boy was charged with several offences, including serious assault, after allegedly spitting at police.
Police said the three hosts were charged almost two weeks after the gathering. It is alleged the adults failed to take appropriate steps to ensure the event was safe and orderly for attendees and neighbours.
The 16-year-old host was accused of failing to comply with police instructions on the night and was dealt with under provisions of the Youth Justice Act.
District Acting Superintendent Jon Kent urged people hosting parties to plan ahead, know their guests, control numbers and act quickly if a gathering became unsafe.
“We expect hosts to plan ahead, know your guests, manage numbers, supervise the party, know the warning signs and take action early as a gathering becomes unsafe or gets out of control,” he said.
Police also reminded parents that hosting a party for their child did not remove their responsibility for ensuring it was properly managed.
