A California woman was filmed confronting a couple during an engagement proposal, demanding that the photography team stop filming before allegedly directing racist remarks at them.
The incident took place on October 2, when a film and photography crew arranged a proposal featuring rose petals spelling “Will you marry me?” and a live mariachi band for the Latino couple.
Trinity Lugo, a videographer with Trinity Films, said she was recording the proposal when the woman objected to the production in the park. Footage of the confrontation has since received 650,000 likes on Instagram.
In the video, the woman tells the crew: “The park is for people who live here and enjoy the park and have picnics.” When they say they will soon be finished, she replies: “I don’t care. It’s every single f***ing weekend, and I’m sick and tired of it.”
She then demands that the proposal decorations be removed and says she has called the police. Lugo said the woman began making racist comments after the mariachi band started playing.
“Bulls***. It’s f***ing Mexican. This isn’t Mexico either, you motherf***ers,” the woman is heard saying in the footage. She also shouts at the couple: “Go back to Mexico.”
Lugo said the crew was caught off guard because they had only intended to film the proposal. She claimed the woman remained nearby waiting for officers to arrive.
After the proposal, Lugo said the crew confronted the woman and told her they had recorded her allegedly racist remarks. According to Lugo, the woman then ran away.
