Chelsea are leading the race to sign Bournemouth midfielder Alex Scott next summer after failing to prise him away from the Cherries during the recent transfer window.
TEAMtalk reports that the 23-year-old remains the Blues’ primary midfield target, with Chelsea considering whether to negotiate an agreement in advance that would see Scott move to Stamford Bridge at the end of the season.
Chelsea tested Bournemouth’s resolve with an offer worth more than £60 million, but the proposal was rejected. The south-coast club made clear that Scott was not for sale and turned down further approaches before the transfer window closed.

Scott has established himself as one of Bournemouth’s most highly regarded players since joining from Bristol City. His ability to combine defensive work, technical quality and composure in possession has made him an attractive option for Chelsea as they look to strengthen their midfield under Xabi Alonso.
The midfielder has also rejected several offers to extend his Bournemouth contract, according to reports. His existing deal runs until 2028, although the lack of agreement over fresh terms has added uncertainty to his long-term future at the Vitality Stadium.
Arsenal and Manchester United have also been linked with Scott, but Chelsea are currently understood to be at the front of the queue. The Blues believe his profile makes him a suitable long-term addition and are prepared to maintain their interest despite Bournemouth’s firm stance.
A January move is considered unlikely, with Bournemouth reluctant to weaken their squad during the campaign. Chelsea are not expected to have greater success in the winter window, but could attempt to secure an agreement now for a transfer to take place next summer.
Much will depend on whether Scott signs a new contract. If he does not, Bournemouth may have to decide next summer whether to cash in on the midfielder or retain him with only 12 months remaining on his current deal.
