Australia’s best mayonnaise has been named after a taste test of 29 products, with Aldi’s Colway Real Mayonnaise and Woolworths Whole Egg Mayo sharing the top spot.
The products were assessed by consumer group Choice for taste, appearance and smell. The result was a dead heat between the two supermarket brands.
Both winning mayonnaises are also among the cheapest tested, costing around $2.80 a bottle.
Aldi claimed another place near the top of the rankings, with its Colway Authentic Mayo finishing third.
At the opposite end of the results, Coles’ 97 per cent Fat Free mayonnaise was judged the weakest performer.
The Choice review criticised its “pale” appearance and “gluey” consistency.
