Chrysler is recalling 239,131 Ram 1500 trucks in the US after a software fault was found that could stop the rear-view camera image appearing when the vehicle is put into reverse.
The recall affects certain 2025 and 2026 model-year vehicles built between October 6, 2023, and February 23, 2026, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
The agency said a problem with the trucks’ radio software may prevent the camera feed from displaying during a reversing manoeuvre. The loss of rear visibility could increase the risk of a crash.
Vehicles built after February 23, 2026, are not included, nor are trucks fitted with a different radio or camera system. NHTSA’s recall number is 26V560, while Chrysler has designated the campaign 83D.
Chrysler will fix the problem by updating the radio software at no cost to owners. Depending on the vehicle, the repair may be completed remotely over the air or carried out by a dealer.
Owner notifications are due to begin on Thursday, September 24, with letters expected to be sent in phases through October 2. The recall filing said vehicle identification numbers became searchable through the NHTSA website on September 9.
Owners can check whether their truck is affected using its 17-character vehicle identification number on the Chrysler or NHTSA recall websites. Chrysler customer services can also be contacted on 800-853-1403.
