Audio from a 911 call made by Perez Hilton’s sister after she found him seriously injured inside his Miami home has been released.
Barbara Lavandeira told the dispatcher that Hilton was breathing, but said she had left the property with the children. She had previously said she found him in a bathroom, covered in blood and difficult to recognise.
During the call, Lavandeira said Hilton had experienced problems the previous week, describing him as “suicidal” and “cutting himself”. She also said he was badly injured but that she could not determine exactly where he was bleeding.
Lavandeira explained that she had taken the children outside because, although she did not believe Hilton intended to harm them, she could not be certain.
She also asked about Florida’s Baker Act, which allows someone to be held involuntarily for psychiatric assessment. The law is comparable to California’s 5150 procedure.
Several people reportedly contacted emergency services during a live stream linked to the incident, prompting police to attend Hilton’s home. A friend also made a separate call to 911.
Hilton was taken to a local hospital, where he was treated for broken bones and an overdose before being placed on a psychiatric hold. Footage from the live stream showed him saying that he wanted to die at the hands of police.
He was later reported to have been facing financial difficulties and struggling after moving from Las Vegas to Miami. His mother sought custody of his children, although Hilton has since spent time with them during several supervised visits.
