Manchester United interest in Jacobo Ramon has emerged after the club’s Champions League defeat by Como, although a move for the highly rated defender appears far from straightforward.
Ramon, 21, has impressed since joining the Italian side and is regarded as one of the leading young defenders in Europe. The Spanish player was previously at Real Madrid and has been among the talents coach Cesc Fabregas has attracted to Serie A.
Manchester United face major obstacles in Jacobo Ramon pursuit
United are in need of reinforcements in defence, while Ramon’s performances have drawn attention from leading clubs. He has been praised for his confidence in possession and physical strength.
However, Como’s success presents a significant obstacle. Ramon is enjoying an influential spell with the club, and a move to Old Trafford may not be the obvious next step when other major teams with more settled structures could also be interested.
Real Madrid could further complicate the situation. The Spanish giants hold a buy-back clause in Ramon’s contract and are considered likely to activate it, either to bring him back into their squad or to sell him on, as they did with his Como team-mate Nico Paz.
Those factors make Manchester United’s reported interest in Ramon highly speculative at this stage. The club’s current difficulties, combined with Como’s progress and Real Madrid’s contractual position, could all count against a deal.
United’s history and financial resources mean the possibility cannot be completely dismissed, but there is no indication that Ramon is close to moving to the Premier League.
