Rangers were held to a 2-2 draw by Dundee after Callum Jones struck in the second half, leaving them second in the Scottish Premiership and one point behind Celtic.
Dundee took the lead when Rangers failed to deal with a routine long ball. Bradley Fink rounded the goalkeeper before sliding the ball into the net.
Rangers responded quickly, with Badredine Bouanani cutting inside and curling a fine effort into the corner to score his first goal for the club.
Nico Raskin then put the visitors in front with a spectacular strike from outside the area which went in off the underside of the crossbar.
Dundee levelled when Jones capitalised on Dan Neil’s hesitation, taking the ball from the Rangers captain before calmly slotting home.
The result means Rangers missed the opportunity to move to the top of the table. Celtic can extend their advantage when they host Hearts on Sunday.
Dundee push Rangers all the way
Kris Boyd said Dundee had shown why their position in the table was deserved and felt the draw was a fair outcome.
“Dundee are a good team. They’re not there [in the table] by fluke or luck,” Boyd said.
“They’ve got a style of play, Steven Pressley has got a group of players willing to run themselves into the ground for him and that’s hard to get.”
Boyd added that Dundee had endured pressure early in the second half before recovering to challenge Rangers again.
“They put in a shift and even when they’re asked to dig in and suffer like they did for the first 20/25 minutes of that second half,” he said.
“They then got a second wind and came back at Rangers and asked questions of them.”
“A draw was a fair result. It took wonder strikes to get Rangers two goals.”
Boyd also said Rangers had lacked creativity in the final third and would need to improve in that area.
