Manchester United interest in Lennart Karl has met firm resistance from Bayern Munich, with the German club reportedly determined to keep the highly rated 18-year-old despite attention from Arsenal and Liverpool.
The three Premier League clubs have made enquiries about the attacking midfielder’s situation in Munich, but Bayern have no intention of sanctioning his departure, according to a report attributed to CFBayernInsider.
Karl has already made a notable impression at senior level. He has recorded 10 goals and 10 assists in 52 appearances for Bayern, while his ability to play in attacking midfield or from wider positions has added to his appeal.
Bayern Munich unwilling to sell Lennart Karl
Manchester United are understood to be looking to strengthen their creative options, with Karl viewed as a potential long-term addition. Arsenal and Liverpool are also monitoring developments around the teenager.
However, Bayern regard Karl as an important part of their future plans. German journalist Christian Falk has indicated that club decision-makers remain confident in his potential and do not want to lose him.
The situation has also drawn criticism from Bayern honorary president Uli Hoeness, who believes Karl must remain grounded and avoid becoming carried away by the attention surrounding him.
Karl’s representative, Michael Ballack, has defended the player and questioned the timing of that criticism, while insisting that the teenager’s performances have continued to improve.
Bayern are reportedly willing to discuss a new contract, although negotiations have not yet started. Karl’s current agreement runs until June 2029, leaving the Bundesliga champions with considerable control over his future.
His reported valuation of €60 million would make him an expensive signing even if Bayern were eventually to soften their stance. For now, Manchester United may need to consider alternative attacking reinforcements unless the position changes in the months ahead.
