Real Madrid are increasingly confident of signing Manchester United youngster JJ Gabriel before the January transfer window, with the Spanish club understood to have made significant progress in their pursuit of the 16-year-old.
Gabriel is one of the most highly rated prospects in United’s academy and has attracted interest from several leading European clubs after impressing at youth level.

Barcelona, Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich are also understood to be monitoring the teenager, while both Real Madrid and Barcelona have held positive discussions with his representatives.
Real Madrid now believe they are in a strong position to reach an agreement. The prospect of a clear route towards senior football in Spain is thought to be particularly attractive to Gabriel.
His future at Old Trafford has become uncertain since he formally requested to leave Manchester United in September. The club have attempted to persuade him to stay, but those discussions have not yet produced a breakthrough.
Gabriel’s representatives, led by agent Ali Barat, are exploring opportunities outside England, with a move to Spain regarded as an appealing option for the teenager.
Manchester United face losing academy prospect
United would regard Gabriel’s departure as a significant setback after investing considerable time in his development. Michael Carrick’s side are continuing to try to retain one of the academy’s brightest prospects, but his representatives are working towards a move away in January.
Any transfer would remain subject to the relevant FIFA regulations and registration requirements. With the window approaching, United face an increasingly difficult task in changing Gabriel’s mind, while Real Madrid will hope to convert their confidence into an agreement.
