The family of Hassan Jihad Ibn Kariem, who died after being ejected from a roller coaster at Six Flags Over Georgia, has warned that fundraising pages appearing in his name are not genuine.
Relatives said they had not authorised any GoFundMe pages or other crowdfunding campaigns following his death on Monday. They urged people not to donate to online appeals claiming to support the family.
The family thanked the public for its support but said it had no plans to launch a fundraiser. Hassan’s mother may establish a scholarship or fund in his memory in future, but relatives said any such announcement would be made through her official representative.
His loved ones are still grieving and have not yet received his body from the coroner. The family also said it had not hired an attorney.
Relatives have sought to correct reports about Hassan’s personal life, saying he was not married and did not have children.
Hassan had been visiting Six Flags Over Georgia with his girlfriend, her daughter and her niece. He was riding the Goliath roller coaster alongside the niece when the incident occurred.
He was ejected from the ride, struck other riders and landed beneath the attraction, according to reports cited by the family.
The family has also asked people to stop sharing disturbing images allegedly showing Hassan’s final moments. For now, relatives are requesting privacy as they mourn.
