A flood watch has been issued for large parts of southern and eastern Arizona as forecasters warn of potentially heavy rainfall from Monday, September 28, through Tuesday, September 29.
The National Weather Service said the watch will begin at 11am Mountain Standard Time on Monday and remain in force until 11pm on Tuesday across areas including Tucson, Green Valley, Marana, Vail, Nogales, Sierra Vista, Benson, Douglas, Wilcox, Bisbee, Safford and Clifton. It also covers the Santa Catalina, Rincon, Chiricahua, Huachuca and Santa Rita mountains, along with the Tohono O’odham Nation and Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument. The warning includes Tucson and surrounding communities, as well as parts of Pima, Pinal, Santa Cruz, Cochise, Graham and Greenlee counties. Mountain and desert locations may also be affected, including Mount Lemmon, Mount Graham, Kitt Peak, Picacho Peak State Park and the Gila River valley.
Heavy rainfall possible across Arizona
The National Weather Service in Phoenix said an influx of tropical moisture is expected to reach the Desert Southwest from Sunday, with the greatest potential for widespread rain from Monday into Tuesday.
