Liverpool manager Andoni Iraola has admitted he does not know whether Alisson Becker will remain at Anfield beyond the current season, with the goalkeeper out of contract in June.
The Brazil international has reportedly considered leaving Liverpool amid interest from Juventus, while his recent form has added to questions over the club’s long-term plans for the position.
Andoni Iraola wants Alisson Becker to stay
Alisson made costly mistakes in defeats by Arsenal and Fenerbahce, although the 34-year-old remains one of Liverpool’s most established players. The club may now have to weigh up whether to renew his contract or begin planning for a successor.
“I don’t know if this will be Alisson’s last season, that is a question you have to ask him,” Iraola said.
“I hope not, I hope he continues with us for more time. But, when you ask me about contracts and these situations, it is a matter for the players and the club.”
Aston Villa goalkeeper Zion Suzuki has been linked with a possible move to Liverpool as the club considers its options. However, there has been no indication that a decision on Alisson’s future has been made.
There is likely to be debate over whether Liverpool should move on from the former Roma goalkeeper as he approaches the latter stages of his career, or offer continued backing to a player who remains a club great.
