Newcastle United are reportedly considering a move for Middlesbrough striker Will Lankshear after the 21-year-old’s prolific start to the season.
Lankshear has scored 13 goals in 13 Championship appearances for Boro, taking his total to 15 in 16 matches across all competitions. His form has put him on the radar of Premier League clubs, with Newcastle understood to be assessing their options in attack.
The forward joined Middlesbrough from Tottenham during the summer after finding first-team opportunities limited in north London. He had previously impressed during a loan spell at Oxford United, scoring 12 goals in all competitions and being named the club’s young player of the year.
Newcastle consider options after Isak departure
Newcastle have been seeking greater strength up front since Alexander Isak’s move to Liverpool, with the club viewed as having failed to adequately replace the Sweden international.
Lankshear would represent a long-term investment for Eddie Howe’s side, although talkSPORT has reported that Newcastle are also considering Ivan Toney as a more experienced alternative.
The striker’s development has followed an unconventional route. He began in Arsenal’s academy before moving to Sheffield United and later Tottenham, where he made his senior debut in October 2024.
Lankshear made six appearances for Spurs in total and also spent time on loan at West Brom before his spell with Oxford United. His current scoring record has now raised the prospect of a return to the Premier League.
Middlesbrough are unlikely to welcome the prospect of losing their leading scorer, particularly while they are pushing for promotion. The club’s position could therefore prove decisive if Newcastle step up their interest in the coming months.
