The cause of death of Matthew Wright, an executive producer of The Ellen DeGeneres Show, has been confirmed following his death in Los Angeles on October 30 at the age of 52.
His death certificate states that he died from cardiopulmonary arrest, with hypertension listed as the underlying cause. Class II obesity and obstructive sleep apnoea were recorded as contributing conditions.
A fundraising page set up for Wright’s loved ones said he had died “suddenly but peacefully in his sleep”. It added that he had been in Los Angeles while working remotely.
The tribute described Wright as “our magical Matty” and urged people who had known him to remember his humour, encouragement and generosity.
“If Matt has ever made you laugh, said an encouraging word right when you needed it, or ordered one too many appetizers for the enjoyment of the whole table, now is the time to repay the favour,” it said.
Ellen DeGeneres also paid tribute to Wright after news of his death emerged.
