Arsenal and Liverpool are reportedly among a number of leading clubs monitoring Aston Villa goalkeeper Zion Suzuki after his impressive start at Villa Park.
The 24-year-old Japan international joined Villa from Parma in the summer and has quickly enhanced a reputation that had already attracted interest from several major European sides.
Liverpool are said to view Suzuki as a potential long-term successor to Alisson Becker, while Arsenal, Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain are also understood to be keeping watch. None of those clubs are regarded as making him an immediate priority.
Zion Suzuki transfer interest could drive record fee
Villa paid £30 million for Suzuki, according to a BBC Sport report at the time, but his development has prompted suggestions that the Midlands club could eventually demand a considerably higher figure.
Villa are reportedly highly optimistic about the goalkeeper’s potential and believe he could become one of the leading players in his position. The club is also said to expect that any future sale could surpass the world-record £70 million Chelsea paid for Kepa Arrizabalaga in 2018.
Liverpool’s interest may be particularly significant given suggestions that Alisson has shown signs of decline in recent times. Suzuki could therefore emerge as an option for the club as it considers the long-term future of its goalkeeping position.
Arsenal and the other clubs monitoring the Japan international already have established goalkeepers, making the situation less urgent for them. However, Suzuki’s continued progress could attract further suitors if Villa retain him for several years.
For now, Villa are understood to be in no rush to part with a player they signed only recently and who has made such a strong impression since arriving in the Premier League.
