Robert Pattinson has reportedly screen-tested for the role of James Bond, putting the actor among the contenders to succeed the current 007.
The 40-year-old, who is also playing Batman and Bruce Wayne for DC Studios, is understood to have taken part in auditions alongside Callum Turner, Jack Lowden and Josh O’Connor.
The screen tests reportedly took place over the weekend of October 24, when only three of the actors believed to be under consideration had been identified publicly.
Robert Pattinson has already worked with Bond director Denis Villeneuve
Pattinson may have an advantage in the race through his previous work with Denis Villeneuve, who is set to direct the next Bond film. The pair worked together on the upcoming Dune: Part Three.
A decision has not been made, however, and Amazon has not officially commented on reports that Pattinson tested for the part.
The actor’s possible casting would come as a surprise to some, given his existing commitment to Batman and his roles in major films including The Odyssey, Dune: Part Three, Primetime and The Drama. His earlier credits include Christopher Nolan’s Tenet, the Twilight series, Harry Potter and Robert Eggers’ The Lighthouse.
The Hollywood Reporter noted that although conventional wisdom might count against casting a world-famous actor as Bond, “these are unprecedented times in the franchise”.
Turner has also received public support from former Bond actor Pierce Brosnan, who previously described his Only Living Boy in New York co-star as “so strong.”
