Donald Trump may be considering who to blame after the Republicans’ midterm defeat, with JD Vance emerging as a possible target amid scrutiny of his links to the Iran war and failed efforts to end it.
The prospect was discussed on “The Low Down”, a collaboration between TMZ and the New York Post, which examined which figures could face the president’s anger following the result.
Secretary of War Pete Hegseth was identified as one possible casualty, amid backlash over the Iran war. General Dan Caine, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, was also mentioned as a potential contender.
Stephen Miller was another name raised during the discussion. Trump has reportedly criticised Mr Miller over his immigration policies after First Lady Melania Trump complained that friends were being deported.
The programme’s contributors suggested Mr Miller could be vulnerable because of videos showing arrests by Immigration and Customs Enforcement, which have circulated widely.
However, Harvey argued that Mr Vance could be the most significant figure at risk. The vice-president’s post-midterm manifesto was viewed as potentially placing him in the firing line, particularly after Mr Trump said he may or may not run.
The discussion also considered whether Mr Vance should strengthen his commitment to the Make America Great Again movement or seek greater distance from the president.
