Joe Manganiello has revealed that a shaman blamed his marriage to Sofia Vergara for triggering the autoimmune condition he was suffering from, according to his book Bloodlines.
The 49-year-old actor writes that he visited the shaman while seeking help with his health. He says the meeting was suggested by his friend Armie Hammer.
Manganiello also discussed the fertility difficulties he and Vergara experienced while trying to have a child through a surrogate.
In his account, Manganiello says the shaman told him: “You were never supposed to marry her. I mean, of course you did, but it was never meant to last, and you were never going to have a kid with her like a gay couple with the eggs and the surrogate.”
The shaman allegedly went on to refer to the couple’s public image, telling Manganiello: “You were the big hot guy on TV, and she was the hot girl, and so yeah, that made sense, but she wasn’t right for you.”
Manganiello says the shaman linked the breakdown of his health to the couple’s fertility struggles and his reluctance to end the marriage.
“Your marriage to her triggered a booby trap, and your body collapsed,” he quotes the shaman as saying. “The foundation collapsed. That was the trigger . . . when you realized she couldn’t have a kid with you.”
The alleged exchange concluded with the shaman describing Manganiello’s illness as “Divorce by death!”
