Amad Diallo has used Snapchat to express his anger after Manchester United’s 2-0 Champions League defeat by Atlético Madrid at the Metropolitano Stadium, posting: “F*****g disgrace; I have no words.”
The Ivory Coast international began Wednesday’s match on the bench and was introduced in the second half in place of Marcus Rashford. He was unable to change the outcome as United’s hopes of recovering from the setback faded.
Leny Yoro’s dismissal left Michael Carrick’s side facing an uphill battle, before Ademola Lookman scored Atlético’s second goal to secure victory. The result has added to the pressure on Carrick, with United continuing to struggle for consistency across competitions.
Amad Diallo’s Snapchat reaction to Atlético Madrid defeat
Amad accompanied a photograph from the match with the strongly worded message shortly after the final whistle. His reaction offered a clear indication of the frustration within the United camp after another disappointing performance.
The winger is regarded as one of the club’s most promising attacking players, although United’s wider difficulties have made it challenging for individuals to influence matches consistently.
Amad was not the only United player to voice concerns following the Champions League defeat. Defender Lisandro Martínez delivered a critical assessment of the club’s situation during his post-match interview.
Martínez questioned the decisions behind United’s squad planning and appeared to direct his comments towards technical director Jason Wilcox.
“I have to control myself a lot, but sometimes it’s a reflection of how our club is at the moment, you know?” the Argentina international said.
He added: “I expected more from our technical director. I have to be honest. As players, we have to do more, but it’s also important when you make a strong squad to be ready for these kinds of nights.”
Martínez accepted that the players must take greater responsibility, but also suggested that recruitment and squad depth had contributed to United’s struggles. His comments, alongside Amad’s Snapchat post, have intensified scrutiny of the club following the defeat in Madrid.
