Lady Gaga has welcomed her first child with her fiancé, Michael Polansky, after months of keeping a low profile and stepping away from the stage and public events.
The 40-year-old singer was seen cradling a newborn baby in photographs, confirming that she and Polansky have become parents. Few details about the child have been made public.
The news follows an unusually quiet period for the singer, whose Mayhem Ball tour ran from April 2025 until its final show at New York’s Madison Square Garden on April 13 this year.
Unlike previous breaks between major tours, Gaga has not returned to the stage or resumed her Las Vegas performances. She has also largely avoided red-carpet appearances and has only been seen in public a handful of times.
Lady Gaga’s withdrawal from public life
One of her last major appearances was at the premiere of The Devil Wears Prada 2 at Lincoln Center in Manhattan on April 20. Nearly a month later, she attended the premiere of Apple Music Live: Mayhem Requiem at The Grove in Los Angeles.
The event marked the debut of a concert documentary recorded during a performance at the city’s Wiltern Theatre in January. Gaga appeared with long dark hair, having moved away from the blonde look associated with her recent public appearances.
She then retreated from the spotlight. A source claimed that even some of her friends had been unaware of where she was, while sightings later placed Gaga and Polansky in Marin County, Northern California, where she owns a home.
One resident said Gaga had become a familiar figure locally, although most sightings did not become public. A fan did share a selfie with the singer in August.
Her social media activity also fell sharply. After promoting the Mayhem Ball concert film in May, Gaga made only three further Instagram posts: one about her beauty venture Outer Bio, a stark photograph of herself and a make-up tutorial video.
Gaga had spoken openly about motherhood
Gaga had previously made clear that she hoped to start a family with Polansky, to whom she became engaged in April 2024.
During an appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert in October 2025, she said motherhood would be her “next starring role”.
“I would like to do many things, yeah, all of these things,” she said when asked about continuing to act or perform on Broadway. “But, what I really want is to be a mom. That’s my next starring role, I hope.”
In an interview in March 2025, Gaga said she was “excited to be a mom”, despite having previously felt apprehensive about it.
“I’m also kind of at war with myself sometimes as I get ready to, hopefully, become a mom soon,” she said. “Like, today is wonderful, but the whole day has revolved around me. There’s an incredible amount of narcissism in this.”
She has also suggested that she and Polansky plan to marry soon. In a recorded message during Bruno Mars’s Romantic Radio TikTok Live in March, Gaga said: “Me and my fiancé have been traveling all year, but we’re getting married soon. We were hoping you could choose a special song for us.”
The couple have previously discussed the possibility of an elopement. Speaking to Jimmy Kimmel in October 2024, Gaga said they had considered going to a courthouse “just the two of us, and ordering Chinese food”.
Gaga has described Polansky as her best friend and praised him for supporting her career. “He’s my best friend in the whole world,” she told Colbert, adding that he had “empowered me as a woman in music with a beautiful partner that has my back every day.”
