The Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders have secured a legal agreement preventing My Chemical Romance from dressing concert dancers in uniforms resembling the squad’s distinctive look.
The agreement was reached before a court hearing after Pro Silver Star, which owns the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders brand, sought an injunction against the band. Under the deal, My Chemical Romance can continue featuring cheerleaders on stage, but they cannot be styled as Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders.
The dispute centred on performances in which the dancers wore the squad’s uniforms and used pom-poms before picking up prop guns. The routine depicts them pretending to protect the band during a fake firefight, before they are shot and crawl off stage.
Pro Silver Star’s legal team argued that allowing the use of the uniforms could cause “irreparable harm” to the brand. The injunction was filed on Friday, but the issue was resolved before a judge heard the application.
The agreement means the dancers may remain part of My Chemical Romance’s concert act, subject to the restriction on the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders’ appearance.
Pro Silver Star lawyer Alex Spiro was not available for comment.
