Former NBA star Paul Pierce has told a court that his financial situation has deteriorated sharply, saying he is left with about $3,793 a month after meeting his bills and support payments.
Pierce says his court-ordered child and spousal support payments total $48,000 each month. He is also contesting a request from his former partner, Princess Santiago, for a further $40,000 towards her legal fees and $10,000 to appoint a forensic accountant to examine his finances.
The former Boston Celtics player claims he previously earned an average of $138,000 a month before losing his role at Fox Sports. He says his income has since fallen considerably, with about $10,000 earned from YouTube over the past year and more than $60,000 paid by Fanatics.
Pierce said his remaining income “is sufficient to satisfy his existing support obligations”. He also claimed Santiago, whom he described as a major money maker, is currently earning nothing each month.
Pierce maintains that he is no longer earning at the level he did during his NBA career or while working for Fox Sports. He claims he is struggling to remain financially afloat despite reportedly earning more than $200 million during his time in the league.
He was previously ordered to pay $8,000 a month in temporary child support, as well as $100,000 towards Santiago’s legal bills.
