Liverpool are drawing up plans for a major midfield addition in 2027, with Monaco’s Lamine Camara and Bournemouth’s Alex Scott emerging as the leading Liverpool midfield targets.
The club opted not to directly replace Curtis Jones during the summer, but strengthening the centre of the team is now becoming a significant priority. The proposed move could take place in January or during next summer’s transfer window.
Camara and Scott lead Liverpool’s midfield shortlist
Sky Germany reporter Florian Plettenberg has reported that Camara and Scott are currently high on Liverpool’s list for the central midfield position.
Liverpool have also recently been in contact with the representatives of Borussia Dortmund midfielder Felix Nmecha. However, he is not currently regarded as a priority, with Camara and Scott considered the principal candidates.
Both players would offer energy, mobility and the ability to carry the ball forward. Scott may hold an advantage because he already knows Andoni Iraola from their time together at Bournemouth and is capable of operating in several midfield roles while pressing aggressively.
That familiarity could make Scott the more straightforward option, but Bournemouth’s valuation may prove a considerable obstacle. The club are reported to want more than £100 million after rejecting previous approaches.
Lamine Camara could offer Liverpool better value
Camara could represent a cheaper alternative while providing many of the qualities Liverpool are seeking. The Monaco midfielder is understood to be available for roughly half Scott’s potential price and would bring athleticism, progressive passing and defensive energy.
At 22, Camara also fits the profile of a player with room to develop and potential future resale value. Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that Liverpool are monitoring both midfielders and intend to make the position a major focus in 2027.
Scott would carry less adaptation risk because of his Premier League experience and understanding of Iraola’s demands. However, committing more than £100 million to a developing midfielder would represent a substantial investment.
The choice may therefore depend on whether Liverpool prioritise immediate Premier League readiness or the longer-term financial value offered by Camara. Whichever direction they take, the club are seeking more than additional depth and want a midfielder capable of becoming an eventual starter.
