Alexis Mac Allister has renewed uncertainty over his Liverpool future after suggesting his current campaign could be his last at Anfield.
The Argentina midfielder remains without a contract extension, despite being in strong form for the club. His latest comments indicate that he is leaving the decision over his long-term future to Liverpool’s hierarchy.
Alexis Mac Allister addresses Liverpool contract situation
Asked about previous remarks on his unresolved contract situation, Mac Allister said: “When I said what I said, it was more emotion and my feelings…”.
He acknowledged that he would like to remain at Liverpool but made clear that the final decision does not rest with him.
“It’s their decision and that’s fine for me. I will try my best in the games and in training,” he added.
Mac Allister’s current deal has two years remaining. Earlier this season, he said he was “very, very sad” that Liverpool had not opened renewal talks, particularly after midfielders Dominik Szoboszlai and Ryan Gravenberch agreed fresh terms.
He also revealed that leaving the club had been a realistic possibility during the summer transfer window before deciding to stay and continue giving his best for Liverpool.
European interest in Mac Allister
The uncertainty has attracted attention from several major European clubs. Real Madrid have long been linked with the 27-year-old, while Chelsea are also understood to retain an interest after pursuing him during the summer.
Manchester United and Manchester City have likewise been linked with the Argentina international, with several leading clubs monitoring his position.
Mac Allister recently scored twice against Villarreal in the Champions League, underlining his importance on the pitch as questions over his future at Liverpool continue.
