Macklemore’s Free Palestine Tour has sold out all three of its European dates, with tickets for concerts in Dublin, Paris and London snapped up within hours of going on general sale.
The rapper announced the sell-out on Wednesday, saying he was “blown away” by the response. The shows will take place on October 26 in Dublin, October 29 in Paris and October 30 in London.
Macklemore said the concerts had been organised quickly to allow musicians to stand in solidarity with Palestinians, raise money and use their platforms for activism.
He also wrote that when people in power attempt to silence calls for liberation, “art will always be a form of resistance.”
The three-date tour follows Macklemore’s removal from the remaining dates of Ed Sheeran’s Loop Tour after backlash over his pro-Palestinian comments.
Macklemore has pledged the 1 million US dollars he earned from Sheeran’s tour to six organisations supporting Palestinians. He also challenged New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft to match the donation.
Kraft responded by pledging 2 million US dollars towards humanitarian aid in the region.
The line-ups for the sold-out shows have not yet been announced. Macklemore said: “Can’t wait to be together.”
