A man caught in a citizen’s arrest after an attempted getaway from a bottle shop in Carine, Perth, has pleaded guilty to stealing and several other charges.
Daniel Jeffery-Scott, 22, was filmed trying to escape in a stolen Mazda shortly after the Dan Murphy’s store was robbed in July.
His getaway was quickly abandoned after he appeared to struggle with the vehicle’s handbrake. The Mazda travelled only a short distance across the road before he got out and ran.
Tradie Adam Breen recorded the failed escape and then chased Jeffery-Scott, restraining him in a citizen’s arrest while waiting for police.
“He’s probably revved the motor to its absolute maximum for about five metres and then he’s jumped out and that’s when he’s started legging it,” Mr Breen said.
Mr Breen even had time to take a selfie while waiting for officers to arrive.
Jeffery-Scott entered his guilty pleas in court on Tuesday. He ran from court afterwards and declined to answer questions.
He is yet to be sentenced.
