Manchester United and Arsenal are monitoring Porto right-back Alberto Costa as his rapid progress attracts interest from several leading European clubs.
The 22-year-old joined Porto from Juventus in July 2025 and quickly established himself in the first team. He made 47 appearances during his first season in Portugal, providing eight assists.
Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain are also understood to be tracking Costa, although no formal offers have been made. The clubs remain at the scouting and analysis stage.
Alberto Costa’s Porto contract strengthens their position
Porto are under no immediate pressure to sell after securing Costa on a contract running until June 2030. The deal includes a €65 million release clause, while Juventus are entitled to 10 per cent of any profit from a future transfer.
Porto paid an initial €15 million for the defender, with a further €1 million potentially due in bonuses. His importance to the Portuguese side has grown further this season, with Costa starting five of their opening six league and Champions League matches.
He also completed the full 90 minutes against Manchester City, underlining his growing role at the club.
For Manchester United, Costa would offer competition at right-back and fit their preference for younger players capable of developing into long-term starters.
Arsenal’s interest reflects Costa’s versatility. His ability to push forward or adopt a more conservative role would give manager Mikel Arteta additional options in possession and defensive transition.
There are, however, questions over whether either club would be prepared to pay close to €60 million to €65 million for a player with a relatively short record at the highest level.
Costa’s attacking contribution, pace and recovery ability have helped fuel the interest, particularly for sides that defend with a high line. But with Porto holding a long-term contract and a substantial release clause, the Portuguese club currently have the stronger negotiating position.
