Manchester United are preparing a move for RB Leipzig defender Castello Lukeba as they turn their attention towards strengthening their central defence, according to a report by Samuel Luckhurst.
The 23-year-old French international has become a prominent target after establishing himself in Leipzig’s first-team set-up since joining the German club in 2023. He has made more than 100 senior appearances and is understood to have impressed United’s recruitment team with his development.

Lukeba is valued at between €60 million and €65 million, a fee that would represent a significant investment for the Premier League club. United have recently prioritised players with experience of English football, but are now reportedly prepared to look overseas for a young centre-back.
The defender’s strength, aerial ability and anticipation are among the qualities believed to have attracted United’s interest. His capacity to read danger and make timely interceptions also fits the profile of the player the club want to add to their backline.
United have reshaped their attack and midfield during recent transfer windows, with defensive reinforcements now emerging as the next priority. The uncertainty surrounding the futures of Lisandro Martinez, Harry Maguire and Matthijs de Ligt could increase the need for further investment at centre-back.
Although Lukeba’s prospective price is high, his age and progress at Leipzig make him an appealing option as United assess a long-term solution in defence.
