Maya Hawke has bought a house in her New York hometown, just a few blocks from her mother, Uma Thurman — timing that coincides with the actress filming her latest television project in the same town.
The 27-year-old actress and singer told PEOPLE that she and her husband, musician Christian Lee Hutson, recently purchased the home. “I’m so excited to finally be able to put some roots down,” she said. The purchase comes as Hawke films The God of the Woods, Netflix’s adaptation of Liz Moore’s bestselling 2024 novel, in the same town where she grew up.
Hawke said the overlap has spared her the trade-off she usually faces between working and being home: the anxious spiral of wondering when she’ll next work while at home, or missing home while away filming. This summer, she said, offers both at once, and she has called it the best of her life.
Hawke and Hutson married in a surprise Valentine’s Day ceremony earlier this year at St. George’s Episcopal Church in Manhattan, attended by her parents and several of her Stranger Things co-stars, including Finn Wolfhard, Sadie Sink and Joe Keery, whose Netflix series wrapped filming in December. Hawke is the daughter of Thurman and actor Ethan Hawke, who were married from 1998 to 2005 and also share a son, Levon. Ethan Hawke has two daughters, Indiana and Clementine, with his wife, Ryan Shawhughes.

In The God of the Woods, Hawke plays Judy Luptack, a detective investigating the disappearance of a teenage girl from her family’s summer camp, opposite Kerry Condon as the girl’s mother; the missing girl is played by another Stranger Things alumna, Nell Fisher. Filming began in June across the Hudson River Valley and Adirondacks, the setting of Moore’s novel, which was named one of Barack Obama’s favourite books of the year it was published. Moore is co-showrunner on the series alongside Liz Hannah, with Sony Pictures Television producing. No release date has been set. Hawke’s other recent project, the Audible original The Summer Oath, is available now.
