Netflix is due to report its third-quarter results after the US market closes on Tuesday, as the streaming company faces intensifying competition, slower subscriber growth and a major restructuring of its workforce.
Analysts polled by LSEG expect the period ending on 30 September to produce earnings of 82 US cents per share and revenue of $12.87 billion.
The results come days after Netflix said it would cut about 6% of its workforce, equivalent to roughly 1,000 employees. Chief Content Officer Bela Bajaria is also leaving the role.
The company is contending with stagnating viewership and growing competition from platforms including YouTube. Subscriber additions across streaming have slowed in recent years, while advertising has re-emerged as an important source of revenue for media businesses.
Netflix remains the largest streaming player and has continued to deliver solid profits, helped by its lower-priced, advertising-supported tier.
It announced new features for advertisers on Tuesday, saying they would help brands connect with relevant audiences and measure the effect of their campaigns.
Despite the company’s profitability, its shares have fallen by about 40% over the past year as executives explore new ways to drive growth.
