Newcastle United could revive their interest in Brighton midfielder Yasin Ayari before January if the 22-year-old’s contract situation remains unresolved.
Ayari has become an important member of Fabian Hurzeler’s side, starting four of Brighton’s opening five Premier League matches. His performances have drawn attention from Newcastle, who considered making a move during the summer.

Brighton currently have an option to extend Ayari’s contract by a further year. The club intend to activate that clause, which would keep the midfielder at the Amex until 2028 and strengthen their position in any negotiations.
That would not necessarily end Newcastle’s interest, although it would make a January transfer more expensive. The immediate appeal for Newcastle lies partly in Ayari’s existing deal, which is due to expire in 2027.
Brighton have little reason to consider a quick sale while Ayari continues to establish himself in Hurzeler’s team. His pressing, energy and ability to operate in different midfield roles have made him increasingly valuable to the club.
The midfielder’s profile also fits Newcastle’s preference for younger players with room to develop and potential resale value. Ayari is already Premier League-tested and could offer greater dynamism in the centre of the pitch.
Much will therefore depend on the progress of Brighton’s contract discussions. If Ayari agrees a long-term deal, Newcastle may decide the asking price is too high, while a failure to reach an agreement could encourage them to return in January.
