Oakland police have identified a married couple found shot dead outside their home in the city’s hills as Bryan Walker, 64, and Michelle Min, 63, the founders of the Berkeley-based fashion label Bryn Walker.
The couple were discovered on Friday, October 2, after a neighbour reported hearing gunshots in the 400 block of Panoramic Way, near the border with Berkeley and close to the University of California campus. Officers found both victims suffering from gunshot wounds and they were pronounced dead at the scene. Oakland police said a firearm had been recovered and that detectives were not searching for an attacker who posed a continuing threat to the public. Investigators have not said whether the deaths were a double homicide or a murder-suicide, and no motive has been established. Min’s sister told KTVU that Walker had been experiencing mental health problems for some time and that relatives had been trying to arrange help for him at an institution. That account has not been confirmed by police.
The couple had built Bryn Walker into a national women’s clothing business. The company says it has been based in Berkeley since 1992, operates six company-owned shops and supplies about 1,000 boutiques across the United States.
