Actor Richard Riehle, best known for playing Tom Smykowski in Office Space, has died aged 78. Friends said he died of natural causes in Los Angeles last Thursday.
Riehle was an acclaimed character actor whose career included more than 400 projects.
In Office Space, he played Tom, a product manager at Initech who is laid off before surviving a hit-and-run accident and receiving a substantial financial settlement.
The money enables Tom to pursue his ambitions, including developing his “Jump to Conclusions” mat, in one of the film’s most memorable storylines.
Riehle was last seen in Los Angeles in 2018 after returning from filming the Lifetime holiday movie A Very Nutty Christmas with Melissa Joan Hart.
