Police are investigating two armed carjackings in Tacoma, Washington, including one near the University of Puget Sound campus, after a woman was threatened with a gun and had her vehicle stolen in the early hours of Sunday, 11 October.
The first incident happened at about 12.40am near North 14th Street, directly across from the university. No arrests have been made.

Students living close to the campus said they were shocked by the incident and raised concerns about the university’s response and the information provided to students.
The university sent a safety alert after the carjacking, but students said it did not explicitly state that a firearm had been used. The institution said it was increasing security patrols around the campus and planned to install additional lighting and cameras.
A second carjacking was reported around an hour and a half later, approximately six miles away near the Salishan neighbourhood in East Tacoma.
Investigators have not established whether the two incidents are connected. Both cases remain under investigation.
Tacoma police are appealing for anyone with information about either carjacking to come forward.
