Tampa Bay Rays supporters turned Tropicana Field into a giant postseason gathering on Sunday as they watched their team secure victory in Game 5 of the American League Championship Series against the Cleveland Guardians.
Although the game was being played in Cleveland, fans gathered in St Petersburg to follow the action on the stadium’s screens, filling the stands and taking to the field as Tampa Bay battled for the lead.
Among those attending were Cesar Larios Sr and his son, Cesar Larios Jr, who described cheering for the Rays together as a family tradition.
“I think we’re going to win the whole thing. Absolutely. We can do it. We have the guys. We got the Rays magic,” Larios Sr said.
Rays fans bring playoff atmosphere to Tropicana Field
The watch party was designed to give supporters the feel of a home play-off game despite the Rays being on the road. Families were able to play catch on the field, have their faces painted and collect giveaways during the event.
Fans also had opportunities to take photographs with Rays mascots Raymond and DJ Kitty, while the game unfolded on the giant screens inside Tropicana Field.
For many in attendance, the event offered a way to share the tension and excitement of the American League Championship Series without travelling to Cleveland.
The gathering followed earlier watch parties at the stadium during the series, as Tampa Bay supporters continued to rally behind the team during its post-season run.
Game 6 watch party planned at Tropicana Field

Doors are scheduled to open at 5pm, with the first pitch due at 8pm. The game will again be shown inside the stadium, giving supporters another chance to watch Tampa Bay’s campaign together on home ground.
