Fifteen adoptable animals took to the runway at the Arizona Humane Society’s Compassion with Fashion gala in Scottsdale, Arizona, as guests raised money for pets in shelter care.
The 28th annual fundraiser was held at the Westin Kierland Resort & Spa on Sunday, 18 October, combining a fashion show with auctions and an appeal for donations.
The four-legged models included 12 dogs and three cats. Their appearance was designed not only to showcase animals seeking homes, but also to highlight the care provided by the Arizona Humane Society to vulnerable pets.
One of the dogs, Phoenix, was born at the shelter after his mother was brought in during a cruelty investigation. Volunteers introduced the animals to guests as they walked the catwalk.
Designs from Arizona State University’s student fashion programme featured alongside the animals, while guests took part in a silent auction and raffle. Raffle tickets helped raise funds for the shelter, with a selected family also given the chance to take one of the dogs home.
The Arizona Humane Society said it currently has about 1,500 pets in its care and is on course to take in 28,000 animals this year. Proceeds from tickets, the raffle, auction and donations will support its work rescuing, treating and rehoming pets.
