Saoirse Ronan has said the James Bond rumours surrounding her husband, Jack Lowden, are not being discussed at home, despite claims from his Slow Horses co-star Gary Oldman that the actor has already been chosen as the next 007.
Lowden, 36, has been widely tipped for the role, with producers reportedly said to be strongly considering him as the successor to Daniel Craig.
Oldman, 68, appeared to suggest earlier this year that a decision had already been made. Speaking on Canada’s The Morning Show, he said: “It’s been rumored that he’s on the shortlist. We’re going to find out pretty soon, aren’t we? Because they have picked him.”
The Oscar-winning actor later added: “They have made their choice, but they have not announced it yet.”
Ronan, 32, said the possibility had not become a subject of conversation between her and Lowden, who welcomed their first child in September 2025.
“I mean, well Gary Oldman thinks he’s James Bond, which is its own thing,” she said.
“I mean, we’re kind of getting on with our life to be honest, we have plenty of other things to be dealing with, so yeah, it’s not really a subject that’s coming up in our house to be honest.”
Speaking to the Associated Press, she added: “The dog needs to be walked, the dinner needs to be made, we’re more focused on that.
“Jack’s on Slow Horses right now, and he’s having a good time on that.”
Jack Lowden remains among the Bond contenders
Slow Horses has been renewed for an eighth season, although Apple TV+ did not say whether Lowden would return when announcing the news.
Richard Osman has also said he was told Lowden was likely to be selected, while stressing that the information was not confirmation.
“Someone told me for definite who the new Bond is the other day, but I mean that’s happened before. The name I’ve heard is Jack Lowden,” he said on his podcast, The Rest Is Entertainment.
Osman continued: “It is definitely not a ‘he’s definitely got it’ thing. He is definitely being strongly considered. I think he’d be amazing.”
He described Lowden as having “real Daniel Craig energy”, adding that the actor was “such a brilliant actor” who “can be funny” and “can definitely do action”.
His co-host Marina Hyde said Lowden was a suitable age for the role, given that the actor would need the longevity to appear in at least two films.
Lowden also appeared in Christopher Nolan’s Second World War film Dunkirk and is due to play Mr Darcy in Netflix’s adaptation of Pride and Prejudice, which is set for release later this year.
The search for Craig’s replacement remains formally unresolved five years after his final scenes as Bond. Callum Turner, Harris Dickinson, Jack Barton and Aaron Taylor-Johnson have also been reported among the actors linked with auditions.
Amazon MGM said earlier this year: “The search for the next James Bond is underway.
“While we don’t plan to comment on specific details during the casting process, we’re excited to share more news with 007 fans as soon as the time is right.”
The casting process is being overseen by casting director Nina Gold and director Denis Villeneuve.
