Tenesha Fieldsend, a 14-year-old volleyball player, has been identified as one of three people killed in a crash in western Victoria.
She was travelling home from a competition in Horsham when the Mitsubishi Triton she was a passenger in collided with another car and a truck on the Western Highway near Mount Drummond Road, Ledcourt, at about 6.45pm on Sunday.
The ute was displaying L-plates. Tenesha was airlifted to hospital with an 11-year-old girl and a 17-year-old boy who had been driving the vehicle, but died from critical injuries later that night.
The two occupants of the other car died at the scene.
Tributes for much-loved volleyball player
Tenesha had been returning from the Volleyball Victoria Junior Country Championships, where her Latrobe Valley Volleyball team won a bronze medal.
The team said the teenager, affectionately known as “T”, was “a much-loved part of our sporting community” and would be missed by teammates, coaches, friends and volleyball members.
“It feels extra special that she was part of our bronze medal winning team at the Volleyball Victoria Junior Country Championships in Horsham, over the weekend,” the team said.
“What a wonderful achievement to have shared with her teammates, and a memory for them to treasure.”
The team said its thoughts and deepest sympathies were with Tenesha’s family and friends, adding that she would be “greatly missed and fondly remembered” by the sporting community.
Maroondah Volleyball also expressed its sadness over the teenager’s death and offered condolences to her family, teammates, coaches and the Latrobe Valley Volleyball Association.
“We stand with the Victorian volleyball community in offering our support and sympathy to all those affected. Rest peacefully, Tenesha,” the club said.
