Three people have died in separate motorcycle-related crashes in central Florida since Saturday, according to the Florida Highway Patrol, after a Georgia woman was struck on State Road 429 near Sorrento early on Sunday.
The 26-year-old woman from Carrollton was standing in the southbound travel lanes near mile marker 42 shortly after 12.45am when she was hit by a 2020 Harley-Davidson, investigators said. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
The motorcyclist, a 41-year-old man from Winter Garden, suffered serious injuries and was taken to HCA Florida Lake Monroe Hospital in Sanford. Troopers said he was wearing a helmet.
The fatal collision was one of three involving motorcycles reported across the region over the weekend.
On Saturday afternoon, a 40-year-old Lake Panasoffkee man died after his Yamaha motorcycle collided with a Ford F-150 on County Road 470 in Sumter County. Florida Highway Patrol said he had moved into a designated passing lane to overtake the pickup when its 54-year-old driver attempted to turn left near County Road 416N.
The motorcyclist was taken to hospital but later died from his injuries. The pickup driver was not hurt, and the names of those involved have not been released.
Later that evening, a 65-year-old motorcyclist died after a pickup towing a trailer struck the rear of his motorcycle on East Colonial Drive near St Anne Avenue in the Christmas area of Orange County. The 53-year-old pickup driver remained at the scene and was not injured.
No charges have been filed in any of the three crashes. All remain under investigation by the Florida Highway Patrol.
